NASA: they write letters
Yet another missive from NASA hits my desk.
I was expecting this one, but I did not enjoy reading it.
"...the research and analysis budget for FY06 was reduced by about 5% from what we thought to have in our program last September, and we are now planning a budget for FY07 and beyond that is 15% below previously-planned levels"
"...we have decided to respond to these reductions in an across-the-board way..."
Short version: money you thought you were getting? Not so much.
Now, I don't want to sound ungrateful or anything, but when you're in the middle of a project for which people have been hired, with actual salary committments and contracts, having your budget cut in mid-year makes life interestingly hard...
Interesting times, eh?

"Interesting" indeed...what do you think of Tom DeLay's leaving?
It will weaken NASA's position within Congress since he was senior, had clout, and represented JSC.
But, an argument could be made that JSC was over-represented there. I don't think any NASA center in Texas is in danger for the next couple of years either way.
Be interesting to see if his successor is a space cadet or not.
